Starting production at Hundred End nursery in 2005 and now under glass at Aldergrove, Flavourfresh blueberries thrive in the naturally-peaty Lancashire soil.
Historically producing varieties including Duke, Spartan, Bluecrop, Nui and Chandler, the 2018 introduction of Driscolls Sweet Jane will produce its first crop in 2020.
Producing from May to July, with fantastic growth potential and yields expected, Flavourfresh blueberries are grown in 25 litre pots, watered and fed via drips and heated similarly to the tomato crops.
With wires supporting the fruit-laden laterals, blueberries are hand-picked with the early large plump berries leaving the yard destined for top tier supermarket outlets.
